We
now have added something new - The Big Island Mini Retreat !!!
This is for people
that cannot come to the fully all-inclusive retreats scheduled,
and for people that need complete flexibility in dates, for work, family
reasons, and maybe good airline deals!
What
is a Mini-Retreat??
It is similar to the all-inclusive retreat; for example,
you still get to have a minimum of 3 dolphin swims, and
your accommodation, breakfasts, (in most cases), 3 lunches.
Transportation may also be included, (although
please check on this at the time of booking). Your afternoons
and all your dinners/evenings are free to do whatever
you wish!!
What is the price of the Mini-Retreat??
Packages start at $1595 (plus tax) per person. (It may
vary if you decide on adding/deleting dolphin swims,
a Volcano tour or hiking, booking your own transportation
etc).
How long is a Mini-Retreat??
It can be as long or as short as you wish. The standard
price of $1595 (plus tax) per person is for 6 nights.
However, you can come for only a weekend if you wish,
and there is no maximum, as we can plan a retreat for
as long as you desire!
Imagine yourself…..

Frequently Asked Questions:
How
many people come on your retreats?
The full,
one week, all-inclusive retreats are designed for groups
of up to 12 people. The Mini-Retreats, however, may be from
a single person, traveling alone…to a couple, 2-3 friends,
or a larger size group.
Can I come along alone?
For the Mini-Retreats, absolutely. Sometimes, you will
be able to join up with another single traveler or other
Mini-Retreat guests, and other times you might be the main
retreat focus!
Can you tell me more about the accommodations?
The setting is beautiful, the view is astonishing. Retreat
guests generally have a private bedroom and bath, with
a king, queen or full size bed. Depending on your group
configuration, there may be times where you would share
a large bedroom with another retreat guest.
What
sort of food do you offer at the retreats?
The Mini-Retreats include only breakfast (in some cases)
and 3 lunches. For the full, all-inclusive retreats, we
can cater for almost any diet. Generally-speaking, we tend
to have fresh local fruit for breakfast, (mangoes, papaya,
bananas etc), with smoothies, yogurt, toast, maybe eggs,
or pancakes or oatmeal. For lunch, we often have salads
with some form of protein, e.g. chicken, eggs, turkey,
cheese etc. For dinner, we often have fresh local fish,
or chicken and vegetables or salad. So, if you have special
requests, that’s OK, just let us know about a week
in advance.
What if I have health issues or am overweight?
The best thing to do is to call and discuss your issues
with us. We have had all sorts of shapes and sizes, and
ranges of health on the retreats before. If we know in
advance, we can prepare for you.
Do
you hold the retreats on specific pre-arranged dates?
Yes, for the group retreat. However, for the Mini-Retreats, we work with you
to plan your dates at a time that works for both of us. You may find a better
deal with the airlines on specific dates, or you may be able to work in better
with your other commitments, if you have a choice in your dates. The retreats
do not start or end on a specific day of the week, as we shall decide this together.
Do you have to be a specific kind of denomination
or religion to attend your retreats?
Not at all. We attract quite a range of guests. However, if you have a specific
daily practice or routine for prayer, contemplation or meditation, please just
let us know what your needs are.
Do I need to get a rental car?
It is not necessary, as we shall pick you up and drop you back at the airport.
However, if you would like to rent a car, you are very welcome, and we would
be happy to send you directions to the accommodations. (Please check for the
Mini-Retreat, as most of the time, you will have access to a vehicle during your
stay here).
Can I stay longer than the 6 nights?
Yes, you are welcome to add on extra nights, for both the group and the Mini-Retreats.
What methods of payment do you accept?
Mastercard, Visa, Discover, Personal Checks, Money Orders, International Transfer,
or Cash. Whatever works best for you!
What do I need to bring with me?
Bring at least 2 swimsuits, sirong or wrap (for ladies), a couple T-shirts or
golf-shirts, shorts, 1 pair of long pants for the (optional) hike to the lava,
sweatshirt or jacket for the cooler nights, something nice to wear out at night
(just in case we go out to dinner, although casual dress is totally acceptable
here), wetsuit (optional, if you tend to get cold, and especially useful in the
Winter months), snorkel gear, (can be rented or purchased upon your arrival),
hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, underwater disposable camera, (can be purchased here)
and a journal. You are also welcome to bring along some of your favorite CD’s.
What is a good time of year to come to see
more dolphins and other marine life?
We are very blessed that the dolphins live here on the Kona coast all year-round.
So, any month of the year works well for dolphins. We have about a 95% chance
of being with the dolphins on any given day from the boats. The Humpbacks are
here from December-March, and the Pilot Whales & Manta Rays are here all
year-round.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer or very fit?
We have had all
sorts of fitness level and snork-ability! If you have any concerns or fears,
just let us know ahead of time. For instance, we have plenty of floats, life-jackets,
noodles, boogie boards etc to assist with your level of confidence.
Who is involved in leading the retreats?
Tell us a little about yourself?
I am Phillipa Christian, and I am the main facilitator for the retreats. I also
have a small number of people that are sometimes involved with swim support assistance,
transportation, etc. I’m a New Zealander and I have been living in Hawaii
for almost 6 years, after “jumping” from the corporate ladder. I
got a calling from the Humpback whales to leave my corporate career, and I did
just that! I have been running the dolphin swim and retreat business for over
4 years. I just love to BE here on the Big Island. I feel more at home here than
anywhere else in the world, so far! I love to BE with the dolphins and whales
as much as possible, and am very passionate about them. I have a little girl
that also swims with the Cetaceans, and a full-time, live-in Nanny that takes
good care of her whilst we are on retreat.
How did your website come about?
It started off as a way to promote my friends, to help them market themselves.
Many were already offering retreats, dolphins swims, books, CD’s, artwork,
workshops etc. However, after a while I was guided to become more of an integral
part of the website, and actually offer many of these things myself. I also found
that I was the one making the connection with my website visitors, and I was
guided and drawn to take more of an active role in the connection between my
website guests and whatever they are searching for.
How many retreats are there per year?
We now offer 2-3 full, all-inclusive group retreats per year. For the remainder
of the year, you are welcome to come along on a Mini-Retreat.
What do you enjoy about the retreats?
I love what I do! Just feel into this – I get to play with my guests for
one week! I get to meditate with many of you, go on adventures - in, on and under
the water…to visit sacred sites etc. I love to be the facilitator for my
guests having heart-opening experiences. I am guided so much to ensure that they
are in the right place at the right time, or are experiencing quiet at the right
time. Most people find the retreats quite life-changing in so many different
ways. I must also admit, that I learn so much more about myself, and more about
BEing, and connecting to spirit in even deeper ways, on each retreat. This is
a great gift for me too!
What makes up the day during the retreats?
The retreat is your special week in paradise, and the retreat is tailor-made
for the group that comes together. Together we will develop a program that is
perfect for your dream in Hawaii!
What if there’s something else I’d really
like to do?
Some of the retreat guests have requested additional items to be added into the
program, and others to be removed. For example, one guest had a dream to go para-gliding;
another wanted to add in horse-back riding; another decided not to go around
the island, but to rest on the beach and at the house for a day. It is your retreat,
so we can plan it together!
What else do people say about the retreats?
“Thank
you for an amazing week – the retreat, meeting you,
all the things we saw and did have changed my life”.
Amy V, North Carolina.
